This was the best holiday we have ever had and we hope to do it again in a couple of years time.
R & J Whittle, Gourmet Italy
We arrive in Toronto today. It’s a pleasure to stay at The Ritz-Carlton where we have three wonderful nights.
On a city tour, we discover eclectic neighbourhoods and icons such as the CN Tower and the Hockey Hall of Fame. From bounteous food markets to edgy coffee houses and immigrant enclaves, the cultural diversity unravels before us. You’re at liberty to explore this afternoon. If you’d prefer the company, join one of two Your World experiences.
We enjoy a Welcome Dinner of distinctly Canadian fare beneath a horizon of tall towers.
To Niagara Falls. We get as close to the action as possible on a Horn Blower cruise under the falls. You may also choose a helicopter flight over the area for the ultimate bird’s-eye view.
Pretty Niagara-on-the-Lake, where the Niagara River converges with Lake Ontario, is a quaint 19th-century village. Horse-drawn carts trot past us during a long lunch here.
Mother Nature paints a magnificent fall backdrop for today’s discovery of the 1,000 Islands. Relax on a cruise amid the islands that dot the St Lawrence River. A short drive later, we arrive at Canada’s Capital, Ottawa. Our home for the evening is the illustrious Fairmont Château Laurier.
On a tour, we take in the sights at Parliament Hill and pass by the official residence of Canada’s Prime Minister. Onwards, stroll beneath fall foliage along the World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal. By rail we travel to Montreal and check in to one of the city’s most exclusive addresses. Since 1912, the lavish Ritz-Carlton Montreal has been favoured by celebrities and dignitaries.
Dinner at the hotel this evening is a chance to relax over a meal of exquisite French-inspired cuisine.
To slopes reminiscent of the French Alps. We leave our discovery of Montreal for tomorrow and head for The Laurentians. Romantic towns tucked away within pockets of fiery maples catch our breath. Leaves crunch underfoot.
Lunch is served at Le Grand Lodge Mont-Tremblant. We then reach the highest summit of the Laurentians on a gondola.
Back in Montreal, this evening’s dinner introduces us to authentic local fare.
Embark Ship
We sweep through Old Montreal, absorbed in the hum of the city. Between a cacophony of lyrical French conversations, peek into the windows along Saint-Paul Street. Coffee shops with candy-stripe awnings glide by between alfresco brasseries and charming stone facades.
After lunch, we transfer to Silver Spirit. Toast our departure before the first of many meals on board.
The night has taken us along the St Lawrence River to Quebec City. See the citadel, the old port and the iconic turrets of the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. Church steeples reach up between mansard roofs. Shops and cafes line narrow streets that meander their way down towards the waterfront.
Out of the city, we visit Ile d’Orleans. This tiny island stranded in the St Lawrence River is a bastion of French civilisation in North America. We glimpse Montmorency Falls on our way back to Quebec City.
Happy Thanksgiving! We celebrate this special holiday in Saguenay, on a tour followed by a visit to Musée du Fjord. Amble through the town at leisure this afternoon.
The waters of the St Lawrence River deliver us to Baie-Comeau. From the pier, we drive to the Havre St Pancrace Lookout for a photo stop then visit the Village Forestier d’Antan de Franquelin, where we learn about the local foresting industry. The tour concludes with a visit to the region’s heritage area at Place La Salle.
Spend today on board as our ship skirts the rugged coast of New Brunswick. Breathe in the fresh air atop the deck, watching pine forests and mountains slide past.
We make landfall on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, and spend the day immersed in the island’s historical capital, Sydney. After a city tour, join a Your World experience.
Invigorated by the briny sea breeze, we explore the dynamic capital of the province, Halifax. Between bright green areas and whimsy heritage buildings, discover a flourishing culinary scene and a love of craft brews. Our tour includes a visit to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Perhaps join an afternoon Your World experience.
A summer resort town suspended in time, Bar Harbor is the largest settlement on Mt Desert Island in Maine, USA. Here, mountains, woods and glistening lakes meet fierce ocean swells. Yachts and lobster boats sway on the waterfront.
Admire delightful Victorian-era mansions as we drive through the sleepy town centre. At Acadia National Park, we wander the rocky coast and take to the winding trails through spruce-fir forests. We look forward to a classic Maine lobster roll with the breeze ruffling our hair.
Boston is certainly an intriguing city. We peel back decades of history along the Freedom Trail. The stories of the American Revolution unfold in monuments like Boston Common, State House and the Granary Burial Ground.
On a free afternoon, explore more of the Freedom Trail at Faneuil Hall or return to the ship.
Enjoy a leisurely start and perhaps a second coffee as we sail. After lunch, we dock at the smallest of the US states, Rhode Island. The coastline of Newport is magnificent, dotted with stately mansions, and we take it in along the Cliff Walk. See the sprawling residences of the Vanderbilt, Astor and Morgan families and enjoy the chance to step inside.
We cruise into New York down the famous Hudson River and farewell Silver Spirit. Now in the thick of the Big Apple, we set out for the Upper Eastside, discovering Madison Avenue, Muesum Mile and take a breather in Central Park amidst the fall foliage.
After lunch we retreat from the buzz of the city to check in to The St. Regis Hotel New York. The hotel is said to have invented the Bloody Mary. Perhaps pause at the bar on arrival.
Back from a free afternoon, we spend the evening tucked away within one of New York’s finest restaurants.
From the checkered tablecloths in Little Italy to the trendy boutiques of Soho and the leafy streets of Greenwich Village, we discover the tiny streets of Lower Manhattan. There’s also time to stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge. The salty breeze whips up from the water below and the American flag flutters above us. It’s a joy to stop and watch as throngs of people jog, bike and stroll past us, with the magnificent skyline of New York City in the background.
On a free afternoon, we might head for the Empire State Building or soak in the neon chaos at Times Square.
An extravagant Your World experience is in order this evening as part of our Farewell Dinner.
After breakfast, we say our goodbyes and part ways with smiles on our faces. We hope to see you on your next Captain’s Choice adventure.

Or, delight in the rare opportunity to do nothing at all.
